South Molton Community College, Devon
Project Highlights
300 m2 Textile Studio and Learning Resource Centre
Our first project in the county of Devon
Record temperatures and reduced working hours
Innovative engineering to achieve large open plan spaces
The Background
Due to predicted growth in pupil numbers Devon Council planned to construct a Design and Technology Room with a Learning Reource/Library area.
The local council adopted a passive environmental design to minimise daylight, minimise solar gain and carbon emissions.
Our Solution
Working with one of the largest builders in Devon and Norse Group we delivered a SIPs design (DfMA), manufacture and installation package:
fabric first with high levels of insulation and airtightness
planned installation strategy to increase productivity
extensive DfMA phase to simplify the project
modelled & engineered solution to limit thermal bridging
timed deliveries to maintain the 'live school' environment
The Outcome
A new single storey standalone block creating a dynamic learning environment through visually, thermally and acoustically comfortable spaces.
small team installed structure within 3 weeks
minimal disruption to the local community
low carbon footprint
highly energy efficient buiding to minimise carbon
