Bourne Westfield Academy, Lincolnshire

Project Highlights

dynamic learning space to replace dilapidated mobile
low energy features incuding thermal storage for hot water

The Background

The academy received Condition Improvement Funding (CIF) to replace a dilapidated mobile with an eco nursery extension.

A holistic design was developed by YMD Boon considering building orientation, built form, passive solar and ventilation.

Our Solution

Working with the Keystone Academy Trust and YMD Boon we delivered an innovative new build package:
non-concrete offsite manufactured foundations
fabric first structure designed for installing without cranes
timed deliveries to avoid disruption to the 'live' school
low energy: thermal storage, heat pumps and LED lighting
Clean air and low VOC internal finishes

The Outcome

A new single storey standalone extension with sustainable materials and systems to lower embodied energy and provide an inspirational learning environment.
