THE RULES CHANGED THE DAY AFTER THE SHOW
On 24 March 2026 — the Monday after the Homebuilding & Renovating Show closed — the Future Homes Standard came into force. Every conversation we had at the NEC was based on rules that no longer apply. That's why we didn't rush to follow up. We wanted to give you something worth waiting for.
WHAT HAS CHANGED
The Future Homes Standard replaced Part L 2021 as the energy and carbon benchmark for all new homes in England.
It introduces significantly tighter fabric performance thresholds, effectively mandates heat pumps over gas boilers, and raises the airtightness bar to a level most general builders and kit suppliers aren't set up to guarantee.
WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU
What this means for you: If your project was designed before 24 March 2026, your SAP calculations, U-values, ventilation strategy and potentially your entire build methodology may need reviewing.
We've evaluated the impact and we're now offering a free assessment to anyone we met at the show or anyone planning a self build or development project.
Who this is for?
SELF BUILDERS
Planning or mid-project with SIPs, timber frame or hybrid systems. Need to know if your spec still meets the new standard.
SME DEVELOPERS
Need to understand cost and programme impact of FHS compliance before committing to delivery.
ARCHITECTS & DESIGNERS
Specifying MMC systems and need clarity on what the FHS demands at building level not just component level.
