Challenge
An East Midlands based academy required an environmentally friendly nursery building built within a tight area adjacent to the main car park with the architects' design comprising of a day room, toilets & kitchen.
The architects design proved to be over budget and we developed a dynamic solution with value engineering and cutting edge technologies to enhance the design and reduce the project cost by 20% !
Solution
Optimised the design with a minor layout change to the toilet area whilst maintaining functionality.
Hybrid Structural Insulated Panel System (SIPs), timber and steel structure to achieve increased energy efficiency with thinner wall sections to reduce the size of the building.
Bright and airy flexible interior space with a vaulted ceiling and large open plan area.
Ultra low energy: underfloor and water heating systems to reduce capital costs and energy bills whilst also removing the need for external plant (solved planning condition).
Externally finished in western red cedar cladding and bi-folding doors remove barriers to the outdoors.
